Developing self-sufficient learners and accomplished performers since 2000

My Mission

I strive to create motivated, confident, creative, and above all independent learners and performers, regardless of their age or experience.

Beginners improve rapidly and with tenacity, gaining the foundation necessary for future success and happiness with music. Intermediate students are methodically guided to the next tier, and advanced students are shown sophisticated fine-motor techniques as they learn to dissect, interpret, and perform the most complex repertoire with ease. I help all students relate and apply learned skills to the rest of life, employing a range of educational tools that strengthen critical thinking and problem solving skills outside the lesson studio.

While success demands dedication and diligence by the student, I take great care to ensure that every lesson is motivational, engaging and comfortable. In addition, I customize nearly every aspect of lesson programs to suit the home and family environment specific to the student.

Testimonials

I'm an adult who took regular lessons from Jeremy from 2014 until 2016 when my first child was born. In the past, I've taken lessons from graduates (and in some cases faculty) of Julliard, Mannes School of Music, the Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music, and Guildhall School. With that perspective, I can unreservedly recommend Jeremy as a first-rate musician and instructor. He was great in all respects, but I particularly appreciated how he could suggest and demonstrate so many strategies and techniques to overcome the many challenges in the music I was playing, e.g. Chopin Etudes, bringing my playing to a whole other level. Put another way, he's brilliant at teaching intelligent practice. Even with an adult like myself, who will only ever play for his own pleasure, Jeremy brought to bear his full analytic arsenal on my playing and wouldn't let anything slide. If you're serious about improving your playing and putting in the time to practice, you really need to know how to practice intelligently and efficiently to be the best pianist you can be (it feels like a tragic waste otherwise). Jeremy is that teacher who knows how to get you there and who cares enough to show you how.

I am so happy I found Jeremy Pass Piano Studio!  I am a piano teacher, myself, and had wanted some technical pointers on some difficult passages I was playing in a symphony orchestra.   In our local piano circles, Jeremy is known as the "Technique Guru." His knowledge, patience, ability and humor make learning engaging and meaningful.  He has the ability to hone in on and fix exactly what one needs in order to master a task.  He has given me insights and ideas to use with some of my technically challenged students.  He, himself, teaches beginning to very advanced piano students, as well as leading technique workshops and teacher workshops. I have recommended Jeremy to many students and am grateful to have found him!

I am a Bay Area piano teacher and music instructor, with an active studio of my own. It was a blessing that my City College music teacher, Richard Fenner, found Jeremy Pass a few years ago, and recommended Jeremy for my purposes. Professor Fenner is a very experienced, high level musician, and gave Jeremy his highest recommendation. I have had the privilege of studying piano pedagogy from Jeremy quite extensively, and have watched Jeremy teach his and my own students on many occasions. It is truly something to behold! Jeremy explains and demonstrates the most simple and abstract concepts so clearly, and adeptly adjusts the content of lessons so each student can understand his teachings. It's remarkable how his instructions translate into immediate improvement! Reading and rhythm are both very strong focus points in his classes, and he certainly puts great emphasis on technique and musicianship. Over time, I have seen his students gain predictably beautiful tones, increasing in physical dexterity and evenness of playing. He is very cognizant of practice-related injury and fatigue, especially for his most advanced students, and ensures they develop healthy habits of movement. He has high standards, yet remains kind and friendly, never mean or intimidating. He tells stories, and makes his students laugh. Beyond piano and music, he also helps students develop a sense of discipline, and ensures that the whole family works together to produce results. He helps students build confidence, and trains them to be accountable for their progress. Above all, he teaches with true passion. Jeremy, your teaching delivers powerful messages: consistency, efficiency, patience, the power of intention, the importance of identifying and resolving problems with one’s own mind, learning how to learn, and so much more. Thank you for all you do!
